june has been pretty much a blur...i started off the month at royal family kid's camp, a 5 day camp my church puts on for battered and abused children. i was assigned two boys, ages 8 and 9. the 8 year old was hyperactive, the 9 year old somewhat melancholy. both were lots of fun to hang around with. i came home exhausted on friday, though. constant supervision, as was required, can be very draining. the following monday i went down to adrian, georgia, for high school church camp. while there, i had the rowdiest group of teens i've ever had to watch over. fortunately, there was another counselor in the room, and he got to be the disciplinarian. i do not like to yell at people, although i was forced to do so a couple of times during the week. returning home friday (the 16th of june), i was not drained by any stretch of the imagination, and it was nice not having five billion e-mail messages. :-)

the next day, my mom and i attended a question and answer session regarding the jet program, at which she learned quite a bit. i don't know if my mom knows this, but i am really going to miss her when i leave. this will be my first extended period away from home, and it tears me up to leave. but i've gotta do it sometime. and japan is sooooo inviting. i've been involved in an extended e-mail conversation with carmen, who i will be replacing, and she has been extremely helpful in letting me know what to expect and what to prepare for. she rocks.

i've been reading shelby foote's three book narrative of the civil war, and it is very interesting. i'm just beginning the second book, _fredricksburg to meridian_, and the books are real page-turners for me. i've also been trying to learn some kanji, and i haven't a really cool gpl'ed program called kanji gold that's really helpful.

what i'm listening to: in flames - clayman extol - undeceived sunny day real estate - the rising tide galactic cowboys - let it go

the in flames album is really impressive...the best metal album i've heard this year. i'm getting _three feet high and rising_ from cdnow sometime soon, and i'm looking forward to pumping up "the magic number" on my stereo. "for now get 'em high off this dialect drug". word is born
